For more than 25 years polyurethane powder coatings have enjoyed a strong global presence in the powder coating industry. The article presents the development and chemistry of polyurethane powder coatings comprising the basic structure of the polyisocyanate crosslinkers. The recently achieved improvements in reactivity and performance of isophorone diisocyanate based crosslinkers, which contain no blocking agent and are emission-free, are discussed. New, future-oriented perspectives on obtaining mat surfaces by means of uretdione chemistry are indicated. |
