There are often two opposing views of Research & Development. One is that innovation translated into new and improved products is the key means by which a company can generate growth even in a low growth market such as coatings. The other view is that R&D is an expense and that 90% of this expense is unnecessery and sometimes technical self indulgence. Unfortunately for the latter view, it is difficult to know which 10% is necessary and studies seem to indicate strong benefits from R&D. |
