The aromatic polyurethane systems tends to yellowish under the UV component of the sun light compared to the corresponding aliphatic systems. For this reason the aromatic systems can not be used for top-coating application. The mechanism of ageing of a moisture-curing aromatic polyurethane is reported: the polyether segment degrades very quickly in photo-oxidation conditions forming formate, ester and volatile products as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. Scission of polyurethane bridges occurs at slower rate. |
