Surfactants -- SynthèseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : As consumer awareness of the products and chemicals they use rises, many chemical companies are also striving to become more environmentally responsible. The trend in the coatings industry is toward low/zero VOC products, and many innovations in coatings technology are based on sustainable or green chemistries. The market increasingly demands the use of renewable ingredients to reduce the carbon footprint, and many chemical and coating manufacturers are striving to become more environmentally responsible. This trend is driven by a number of factors, including evolving consumer perceptions and awareness regarding the products and chemicals they use, regulatory/certification bodies and programs such as USDA BioPreferred®, and the growing implementation of corporate sustainability initiatives. Bio-based ethylene oxide (EO) will meet this demand by enabling the synthesis of various ethoxylated surfactants and emulsifiers which are 100% bio-based.
Ethoxylation is a common process used to generate a range of products for emulsification and wetting, including ethoxylated alcohols, carboxylic acids and esters. While the hydrophobic portions of many of these surfactants are already naturally sourced from plant oils, only petrochemical-derived EO has been available in North America until this time. With the production of bio-based EO in the near future, ethoxylated products can now be produced from 100% bio-based content, allowing customers to choose fully renewable products without sacrificing performance. In addition, by incorporation into synthetic base materials, the bio-based content can be significantly increased, allowing formulators to meet challenging new targets.Note de contenu : - Surfactant fundamentals

The adsorption, diffusion and fixation of this dye on cotton fabric in Triton X-100 reverse micelle and bulk water were then investigated. The equilibrium and kinetic data of the dye adsorption process were evaluated. The colour strength and fixation rate of cotton fabrics dyed in the micelle and in bulk water were also examined and compared. The results indicated that the amount of dye adsorbed increased with the increasing temperature and the initial dye concentration. The dye adsorption process could be described using the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic equations. It was found that CI Reactive Red 195 showed a stronger adsorption property on cotton fabric in Triton X-100 reverse micelle than in bulk water without the addition of sodium chloride. Using Triton X-100 reverse micelle as the dyeing medium offered the reactive dye better diffusion performance within the cotton fibre as compared with bulk water. Moreover, higher fixation of the dyes absorbed on the cotton fibre was achieved when the optimum concentration of sodium carbonate was used as the alkali agent in Triton X-100 reverse micelle. Alkyl Triphenylphosphonium Bromide Surfactant Mediated Reactions of p-Nitrophenyl Acetate
Kinetic measurements were performed for the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl acetate as a model compound in micellar media. This reaction was studied both in the presence and absence of various alpha-effect nucleophiles, and in depth analyses were performed using acetohydroxamic acid (AHA). Rate surfactant profiles were obtained in the absence and presence of the AHA nucleophile for the alkyl triphenylphosphonium bromides (CnPPh3Br) surfactant series. All rate surfactant profiles were analyzed using the pseudophase model and modified pseudophase model (In the presence of nucleophile) in order to obtain the regression parameters, including binding constants and rate constants in the micellar pseudophase. Studies in the presence of acetohydroxamic acid and the alkyl triphenylphosphonium surfactants were also conducted as a function of pH to obtain the p-Ka/sub> value of the acetohydroxamic acid in the micellar media.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3218

SaccharoseIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The oxidation reactions of D-sucrose have been carried out with N-bromophthalimide in the presence of micellar aggregates at 45°C. The kinetics revealed first order dependence on N-bromophthalimide (NBP) and fractional order dependence on D-sucrose. Variation of mercuric acetate concentration has an insignificant effect on reaction rate. The stoichiometric ratio of NBP:D-sucrose was 1:2 and the oxidation product was aldonic acid confirmed by FeCl3–HCl test. The influence of salts on the reaction rate has also been studied. Phthalimide (NHP) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) inhibit the rate. Thermodynamic and activation parameters have been evaluated and a mechanism consistent with the kinetic data has been proposed. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and TritonX-100 (TX-100) catalyze the reaction, while sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) inhibits the rate of reaction. The applicability of Berezin's model was tested to explain the observed micellar effects. The rate constants (kM) and binding constants (KS + KO) have been evaluated.
