Résumé : |
Polyurethane polymers in coating applications are well known for providing outstanding properties such as adhesion, corrosion resistance and weatherability among others, generally at a premium cost. New developments will be reviewed which adress performance, environmental and cost issues related to polyurethane based systems in an attempt to increase the viability and market penetration versus alternative technology. These new developments include "Vorastar" polymers, cost competitive weatherable systems and water based dispersions. Finally, it will be demonstrated that polyurethane dispersions can be used successfully, where excellent performance justifies the comparatively high costs. |
Note de contenu : |
- Stage gate process helps to evaluate the value contribution
- Novel aliphatic isocyanate for improved weatherability
- For star shaped polymers typical polyurethane raw materials can be used
- Desired properties of textiles are often through post treatments
- Polyurethane dispersions are used where excellent performance is required
- Polyurethane dispersions for carpet back coating applications expannd the competition
- Bright outlook for polyurethane developments |
