Résumé : |
A novel route to prepare nanocomposites consisting of monodispersed SIO2-nanoparticles and reactive resins was developed followed by an intensive study of mechanical properties of various epoxy-resin/ SIO2-nanoparticle systems. This new innovative technology leads to materials combining increased modulus with a significant improvement in fracture toughness and processability. Even with very high loads of nanosized particles, water-clear systems can be realized with lower viscosities than filled systems based on conventional particle reinforcing strategies. |
Note de contenu : |
- To transfer colloidal silica particls form water into various monomers, prepolymers, and polymers
- The experiment
- Nearly as clear as the starting resin
- Sharp borderline between the SiO2-particles and the surrounding solvent
- Fracture toughness improvements of up to 90 %
- A continuous increase of toughness and modulus up to 40 % SiO2 content
- Side-effect : undesired crystallization of the bisphenol A and F epoxies is being prevented by SiO2 addition |
