Thermal stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) was applied to examine the cohesive and adhesive interactions of polymeric coatings. With this method it was found that the curing of the two-pack alkyd melamine, epoxy and polyurethane coatings as well as the interactions with pigments, fillers and metallic substrates can be evaluated from changes in the a relaxation or shifts in the glass transition temperature. Together with complimentary tests, the measurements showed that the preferential adsorption of a hardener on the metal substrate is an important factor, which can decisively influence the adhesion of coatings. |
