Résumé : |
New resins for UV powder coatings for wood based substrates, in particular for medium density fibreboard (MDF), but also for natural hardwood have been developed. Different types of finish are possible and the resultant coatings exhiblt a combination of unique properties. |
Note de contenu : |
- Technical and economic benefits
- Conventional finishing of MDF : Multi-layer liquid coatings are costly - Paper laminates : High performance, but unsuitable for 3D substrates - Thermoplastic foil : high costs for high quality
- UV powder coatings require lower and shorter heating
- Resins and formulations
- Extrusion and grinding parameters
- Conventional spraying
- Melting with a combination of IRM and convection heat
- Curing at line speeds of 3-6 m/min
- Application 1 - Textured finish for MDF : UV powder coatin gfulfils kitchen industri standard
- Application 2 - High-gloss, smooth finish for MDF : Optimised flow through choice of heating parameters and primer - Performance comparable to textured finish
- Application 3 - clear finishes on paper-laminated MDF : High performance with variable gloss
- Application 4 - clear finishes for natural hardwood/veneered composite board |
