The topic of this paper is the introduction of a new modified silica that gives an improvement of the mar resistance to UV-curing coating surfaces. By incorporation of 5 to 15% of this product an enhancement of the mar resistance between 10 to 35% can be realized. This fumed silica has been chemically and mechanically modified, which facilitates the incorporation of up to 20% of this silica into a binder as an active filler, using the customary dispersing methods. It has to be emphasized that neither the rheological properties of the liquid coatings nor the optical qualities of the cured films are negatively Influenced by using such high amounts of fumed silica. |
