PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The concept of printable holograms is appealing for document security because these devices cannot be replicated by computer scanning, colour copiers, photography, or other commonly-used forgery techniques. Printable holograms can be created by combining existing technologies in thin film and diffractive interference with pigment design and a novel application of simple magnetic field theory. Further security enhancements are possible by incorporating other overt and covert features like optically variable pigments, fluorescent pigments, dyes taggants or by including specially shaped flakes as part of the overall pigment design. Note de contenu : - Oriented flakes contribute to the diffractive
- Lowest energy is achieved when the particles are oriented
- Magnetic diffractive pigments preparation

- Agreement of experimental data and theory
- Red to gold optical design changed colour trajectory
- Diffractive optically variable image devices for security
- Combining features to achieve extra security
- Concept of printable holograms is appealing

The surface is smooth compared to the less uniform and hairy surface of staple fiber yarns. For many applications staple fiber specific properties are desirable with retention of the continuity of a filament at the same time. Through texturing the filament yarns obtain customizable properties such as high bulk, high elasticity and porosity. The properties of textured filament yarns are currently measured offline in the laboratory. Online optical methods for the characterization of filament yarns on the running yarn do not exist. Offline measurement methods are costly and generate only statistical information on the quality of the yarn by random sampling. Besides the state-of-the-art of the measurement of textured yarn parameters, a potential method for the direct optical measurement of textured filament yarn is presented here. PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The author explains why diffractive light technology is used instead of thin film interference to produce a new family of pigments. Basic concepts of diffraction grating theory, together with principles of platelet-like pigments, where taken into consideration when creating of this new family of pigments. The optical properties of these pigments are based on optical interference by diffraction instead of thin film optical interference used on traditional optical variable pigments. By controlling the physical dimensions and surface microstructure, diffractive pigment generates the appearance of multiple, bright rainbow-producing prisms moving over a liquid silver colour. The effect is pleasing, elegant and exhibits dramatic visual appeal that is unique, durable and easy to incorporate. Diffractive pigment opens new worlds of design possibilities and adds value and appeal to virtually any product. Note de contenu : - Light interference

Spectroscopie de réflectanceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of this article is to demonstrate a new way of measuring and understanding the appearance of pigment flake orientation and texture in special effect pigments for use in industrial coatings. We have used diffractive pigments and analyzed the relative orientation of the particles in the coating layers by evaluating their behavior in two common industry applications: solventborne and powder coatings. We have measured the interference color by taking readings with a high-resolution gonioreflectometer, in order to test the viability of automatic diffractive pigment evaluation. The results were analyzed using both psychophysical (i.e., human) and computational (i.e., mechanical) methods. Our later psychophysical and computational analysis of the visual differences that diffractive pigments present in both solventborne (1) and powder coating (2) systems for in-plane and out-of-plane geometries revealed that solventborne liquid paint systems better preserve the appearance of original diffraction gratings. This is due to enhanced orientation of the anisotropic pigment particles. The powder coating surfaces investigated, on the other hand, preserved higher intensity and thus visibility in randomly oriented solitary flakes, creating a greater sparkle contrast. We confirmed our findings by capturing and visualizing coating appearance by means of a bidirectional texture function. We then compared the diffractive pigment evaluation results with other state-of-the-art measuring device readings. We believe that our work provides valuable information on flake orientation and also compares pigment performance in a range of industrial coating systems, which may enable industrial companies to improve paint spraying processes.
