Résumé : |
In UV curable powder coatings the UV absorbance of pigments (and additives) directly affects the film formation. In this study, the influence of TiO2 pigmentation level and layer thickness on the coatings properties were monitored by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, UV light transmission, glass transition temperature measurements, coating hardness and abrasion, as well as differential photocalorimetry. increasing the pigment level or coating layer thickness leads to a decrease in through cure. Maximum coating thicknesses for complete through cure are given for various formulations. |
Note de contenu : |
- Semi-crystalline binders show better flow at low temperatures
- Temperature limits must be observed
- Application and curing parameters on MDF
- Detailed study of pigment concentration effects
- ATR-FTIR measurements
- Curing results can depend on lamp type
- Limited UV transmission does not imply bad through cure
- Incomplete cured coatings show lower Tg
- Hardness and through cure closely related
- Pigment level determines the abrasion resistance
- Several effects lower reaction enthalpy with higher pigmentation |
