Reactions between coating materials and the substrate often critically contribute to the coatings performance and service properties. This article reviews film forming processes, application techniques, and waterborne coating compositions specifically suitable for "active" substrates. This comprises surfaces that are substantially rough, porous, or chemically reactive towards the coating, e.g. conversion or rust layers on metals. |
