Résumé : |
Vehicles for lithographic inks can be greatly improved by alcohol extraction of the low molecular components for commercial rosin modified phenolic resins. Inks based on these refined resins feature property pairs, that were throught to be principally excluding each other : They show both good gloss and fast setting (drying), both good misting and viscosity/flow behaviour, and both good water emulsification and start-up of printing jobs. |
Note de contenu : |
- Vehicle is the key quality component
- Conflicting properties : Gloss vs setting, misting vs flow
- Improvements, but no breakthrough
- The challenge : increase viscosity - drecrase thixotropy -> Misting - Ink transfer
- Medium molecular weight, few polar groups and side chains
- Extraction procedure
- Vehicle and ink production and characterisation
-Good misting and flow - good setting without compromising gloss
- Resin structure effects
- Precision temperature control is required in the manufacture
- Many of the current ink problems resolved once and for all |
