Résumé : |
Nanoindentation and nanoscratch tests clearly show that the scratch resistance of coating systems is not only determined by the material properties of the topcoat. It is also the substrate, or the basecoat, underneath the topcoat, that influences the scratch resistance of the outer layer considerably. Thus, all layers should by considered, when building high performance scratch resistant coatings systems. |
Note de contenu : |
- EXPERIMENTAL : Film preparation - Nanoindentation - Nanoscratching - Thickness measurements - Dyanmic mechanical and thermal analysis (DMTA)
- THE FORMULATIONS UNDER STUDY - HARD AND SOFT BASE AND TOPCOATS
- SUBSTRATE AND COATING RESPONSES CAN BE DISTINGUISHED
- ANVIL EFFECT - THE SUBSTRATE ADDS TO THE PRESSURE ON THE COATING
- NANOSCRATCHING - SUBSTRATE CAN BE FELT THROUGH THIN LAYERS
- TWO CRITICAL CRITERIA DETERMINE THE DELAMINATION THRESHOLD
- "HARD-ON-SOFT" MULTILAYERS MAY DIMINISH THE SCRATCH PERFORMANCE
- CONSIDER ALL LAYERS TO OPTIMISE SCRATCH RESISTANCE |
