SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : A physical method for measuring the drying performance in household dishwashers, consisting of a hardware setup for automatically measuring the water reduction during the drying phase in a dishwasher programme cycle and a suitable physical model, is presented. The hardware setup is basically composed of a high precision scale connected to the baskets within a given household dishwasher. The time-varying weight values measured by this scale generate a weight function corresponding to water reduction during the drying phase. This weight function is subsequently subdivided in a draining phase and a vaporisation phase, modelled by a hyperbolic and by an exponential function, respectively. Using a least mean square optimization approach to different time intervals of the weight function, two well reproducible characteristic parameter sets are derived which are able to differentiate different rinsing products very well. Compared to the results of a conventional method for assessing drying performance by "counting drops" a good correlation with the performance of the rinsing products is obtained.

Réticulation (polymérisation)Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Chitosan hydrogels were synthesized by crosslinking them with genipin at different concentrations. The time required for obtaining the hydrogel and their physico-chemical properties, such as rheological analysis, stability at different pH's and water absorption capacity were studied as a function of the genipin concentration. The morphology was determined by scanning electron microscopy on freeze-dried hydrogels. The results revealed that low genipin concentration allowed to obtain well crosslinked hydrogels and indicated that the genipin concentration influenced the physico-chemical properties studied. Moreover, the results showed that the swelling percentage of chitosan hydrogels depends highly on the crosslinking degree and on the medium pH. Toxicologie génétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Two new derivatives (A) and (B) of cationic germanium metal based surfactants have been synthesized. Their formulas are: [GeCl2(R)4]2+FeCl4 2– and [GeCl2(R\)4]2+SnCl4 2–·2H2O where R = hexamine and R\ = isothiouronium. A third derivative (C) of cationic titanium metal based surfactant was also synthesized and its formula is: [TiCl2(R\\)2]2+CoCl4 2–·6H2O where R\\ = triphenylphosphine. The presence of complex anions with metals was confirmed by inductive coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP), IR spectrum and elemental analysis. Surface properties of the prepared surfactants, surface tension and critical micelle concentration were evaluated. Cytotoxic activities of these three metallo-surfactants were tested on human cell lines: leukemia lymphoblastic NALM-6 cells, promyelocytic HL-60 cells and breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells. The obtained data revealed that the compound A did not exert cytotoxicity toward normal lymphocytes and was also inactive against all tumor cell lines tested. However, compounds B and C displayed high cytotoxicity in tumor cells and low toxicity in human normal lymphocytes, with concurrent high genotoxicity in all kinds of cells. All of these synthesized metallo-surfactants (A, B and C) induced oxidative DNA damage as detected by alkaline comet assay. Therefore, novel cationic germanium and titanium metal based surfactants (B and C) may be considered for use as anticancer drugs but further studies should be performed. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Colloido-chemical behavior of copper (II) stearate and N-donor ligands in benzene-methanol mixture of varying composition has been investigated by viscometric measurements. The critical micelle concentration values depend upon the composition of solvent mixture and are to be found in close agreement with each other. The general trend observed is that the viscometric parameters with concentration are quite different and the plots are obtained with curvature at a definite concentration corresponding to critical micelle concentration at which there is marked change in the aggregation of the complex molecules. The results of phenylthiourea and benzothiazole complexes in regards to solute-solvent and solute-solute interactions in mixed solvent systems have been discussed in terms of the equations proposed by Moulik and Jones-Dole. The complexes were synthesized with N-donor ligands and copper (II) stearate and characterized by their elemental analysis, molecular weight, melting point, IR and NMR spectral studies. Due to the surface-active properties of copper stearate, the complexes show remarkable applications in industries and are used as emulsifiers, dispersing agents, foaming and wetting agents. N-donor ability of ligands make them useful as intermediates for many organic compounds such as colorants, agrochemical and pharmaceutical. They are good antiviral, antibacterial and antimalerial agents. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3717

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Phytosterols are minor constituents of vegetable oils, which are being removed in the vegetable oil refining process such as deodorization. Deodorizer distillate is obtained in deodorization process, which contains about 4–8% of phytosterols. In the present study the aim was to utilized vegetable oil refining byproducts into valuable specialty surfactants. Phytosterols were isolated from deodorizer distillate of soybean oil using two different methods. In the first method methyl ester of deodorizer distillate was prepared and phytosterols isolated by crystallization. In the second method calcium soap of deodorizer distillate was prepared and unsaponifiable matter extracted using solvent. Phytosterols were isolated by crystallization in hexane from unsaponifiable matter. The phytosterols thus obtained was used for synthesis of sulfosuccinate surfactant. Surface active properties of phytosterols sulfosuccinate were evaluated and shows good surface active properties. Additives that lower the KP or raise the CP salt the surfactants in. The short-chain organic electrolytes acetic acid and propionic acid lower the KP of polyoxyl 10 cetyl ether (C16E10) while sodium acetate, propionate and butyrate leave the KP largely unaffected. Sodium acetate and sodium propionate lower the CP of C16E10 substantially. Sodium butyrate raises the CP, presumably by rendering the C16E10 micelles partly ionic via mixed micelle formation. Hydrotropes (sodium benzoate, salicylate and xylene sulfonate, and the nonelectrolyte nicotinamide) lower the KP of polyoxyl 10 stearyl ether (C18E10) substantially at 3.0 m concentrations and raise the CP substantially even at 0.10 m concentrations. The KPs of mixtures of C18E10 (KP = 48°) and hexadecylamine hydrochloride (HDCl, KP = 44°) were measured at a constant total surfactant concentration of 2.0% based on the weight of water. The plot of KP versus the relative weight-percent HDCl is V-shaped with a eutectic minimum of 32° at 33% HDCl. The left branch is entirely linear. It shows how increasing weight-percentages of HDCl lower the KP of C18E10. The right branch is linear up to ca. 80% HDCl but becomes less steep at higher HDCl concentrations. It shows how decreasing weight-percentages of C18E10 raise the KP of HDCl. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3719

Textiles et tissus -- LavageIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The paper presents results concerning the sustainability of laundering processes which were achieved by BMBF research projects of the wfk Cleaning Technology Research Institute on reduction of energy and detergent in professional laundries (01 RT 9973) and by the development of economical laundering processes with optimised water-, energy- and detergent consumption to achieve an appropriate particle content for operating theatre textiles (0330466). General reduction of water and energy consumption was reached by optimisation of mechanical agitation in tunnel washers (continuous batch washers). Investigations in laundries showed significant increase of soil removal by rotating drum in comparison to oscillation drum systems with consequence of reduced dosage of detergents. This is especially for soil which is mainly removed by mechanical action. At the same time no higher values of textile damage occurred. In addition, the total water consumption was reduced to 4 L/kg. In research project 0330466 economical washing processes were developed with appropriate particle release for surgical textiles (drapes, gowns, clean air suits). The investigations were carried out with respect to textile material and its making up, washing and rinsing technology, drying technology as well as detergents and laundry aids. By use of suitable textiles, optimisation of laundering and drying processing, application of suitable detergents and installation of an online-particle control system in the tumble dryer, the specific water consumption was reduced from about 40 L/kg to 20 L/kg. In addition, the detergent dosage was reduced to 60%. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3731
