Titre : Metal salt azo pigments Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Robert M. Christie, Auteur ; Jennifer L. Mackay, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 133-144 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Historically, metal salt azo pigments have evolved from products referred to as 'lakes', which were prepared from established water-soluble textile dyes, rendered insoluble by precipitation on to colourless inorganic substrates. The first azo lake pigment, Lithol Red, was reported in 1899. The majority of the current range of industrial metal salt azo pigments no longer contains the insoluble substrate as an integral constituent. Structurally, they may be considered as being derived from sodium salts of anionic azo dyes containing sulphonate and/or carboxylate groups by replacement of the sodium cation, usually with a divalent cation of an alkaline earth (calcium, strontium or barium) or the transition metal manganese. This review provides an account of the historical development of metal salt azo pigments and an overview of the chemical structural types of the current range of commercially important products in relation to their properties and application performance. An overview of the patent literature associated with the development of the products is also given. Importantly, the structural investigations which have been reported on this group of pigments, using a variety of microscopic, spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques, are reviewed. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The colour values of knitted cotton fabrics made from single and plied ring and compact yarns were investigated before and after dyeing. The fabric samples were knitted under the same constructional properties and then dyed with direct and reactive dyes. It was found that fabrics with ring yarns had high lightness and low chroma and colour strength values compared with fabrics with compact yarns. Also colour strength and colour difference values of dyed fabrics were assessed after increasing abrasion cycles (2500, 5000, 7500 and 10 000). The main changes in colour strength values were observed at 2500 abrasion cycles. The effect of abrasion on colour difference values of fabrics having ring yarns was more obvious than fabrics having compact yarns. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The light fastness of a number of azo dyes has been investigated using all-valence molecular orbital methods, AM1 and PM3. The results of molecular orbital calculations are used to obtain both highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital frontier electron density, which, respectively, can account for the propensity of the electrophilic and nucleophilic attack at a particular atom in a molecule. The highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital superdelocalisability have also been obtained to explain the order of light fastness values in different dyes of a particular series. In addition, attempts have been made to correlate the light fastness values with the difference in energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital of the dye and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the singlet oxygen. The absorption spectra in the visible region of all the synthesised cyanine dyes in 95% ethanol solution were examined and studied in detail. Anti-bacterial activity for a number of selected dyes was evaluated against various bacterial strains. The structural determination was carried out using elemental and spectroscopic analysis. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Removal of CI Basic Blue 9 or CI Basic Red 5 from model aqueous solutions has been studied with spherical silica precipitated in an emulsion system used as an adsorbent. The process of removal of the dye impurities has been studied for the dyes in a wide range of concentrations (50–2000 mg dm-3) in model systems. The degree of dye adsorption, chemical stability of the pigments obtained and their detailed physicochemical and morphological characterisation have been ascertained. In particular, the dye removal method proposed has been found to be highly effective in removing CI Basic Blue 9 (99.9 %). The degree of dye extraction from the silica (SiO2) surface at the dye concentration in the model solutions in the range 1000–2000 mg dm-3 did not exceed 1.0 %. The pigment composites produced are characterised by high uniformity of the particles (polydispersity index = 0.005) with the diameters ranging from 360 to 510 nm. The pigment particles are spherical in shape and of intense blue or red colour. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Four dichloro-s-triazinyl dyes and 2,4-dichloro-6-p-sulphoanilino-1,3,5-triazine have been applied by exhaustion methods to dried lyocell fibres. The method of application, of both dyes and agent, influenced the cross-linking performance and, in turn, the wet abrasion resistance of the treated fibre. However, dyeing alone, with any of the MX dyes used in this study, was insufficient to protect the fibre from wet abrasion problems during laundering. A comparison between one of the MX dyes, Chloranyl Orange MX-2R, and 2,4-dichloro-6-p-sulphoanilino-1,3,5-triazine on a mol-for-mol fixed basis, showed 2,4-dichloro-6-p-sulphoanilino-1,3,5-triazine to be greatly superior at protecting lyocell against wet abrasion. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : One mono-reactive and two bis-reactive 2,3-epoxypropyl derivatives of quaternary ammonium chloride have been synthesised and characterised using different spectroscopic techniques. The effects of these compounds as fixing agents have been evaluated on the direct dyeing properties of cotton fabrics. The results indicated that pretreatment of cotton fabrics with these cationic agents enhanced the colour strength and fastness properties of direct dyeings over the untreated dyeings without using high electrolyte concentrations. However, bis-reactive derivatives have proved to be more effective than the mono-reactive derivative. Amongst bis-reactive derivatives, the compound with lower steric hindrance has shown superior results. Titre : Design and application of a multifunctional reactive dye capable of high fixation efficiency on cellulose Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : K. F. Morris, Auteur ; David M. Lewis, Auteur ; Peter J. Broadbent, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 186-194 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A polyfunctional reactive dye containing two dichloro-s-triazine residues linked through aliphatic amino groups via a third triazine system to the chromophoric residue has been prepared. The dye was synthesised stepwise from a specially synthesised 2,4-dichloro-s-triazine dyes. The first step is the reaction of both carbon–chlorine sites in the 'parent' dye with 2 mol ethylenediamine under selected conditions of pH and temperature; these conditions ensure that only one of the amino groups in the ethylenediamine will react to give the bis-2,4-aminoethyleneaminotriazine dye. The second step is the condensation of 2 mol cyanuric chloride with the two pendant primary amino groups. The alkylamino-linked dichloro-s-triazine dyes show very different dyeing properties when compared with those shown by the parent dichloro-s-triazine dye, which has the reactive group linked directly into the aromatic chromophore; in particular, the new dyes have high fixation efficiencies when dyed on cotton at 50 °C and the dye–fibre bond stability to boiling acidic conditions is very good.
