Dawson, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 67-78 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Consumers today are increasingly demanding goods which not only conform to the public's image of being 'eco-friendly' and 'organic' but of having been produced 'ethically'. Meeting such high ideals has a down side, both in higher costs and often in that of having to accept more distant suppliers. Present trends in the coloration of foods with natural dyes rather than synthetic ones, increasing consumption of organic products (including fibres) and energy-saving trends in dye application methods, fuels and lighting, as well as the means of capturing solar energy, are discussed. The discovery of some interesting and historic green colours, the wider use of green (in both senses of the word) products and green chemistry's future role in producing them are also reviewed. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A series of neutral and cationic dyes based on a naphthoylenebenzimidazolone skeleton have been synthesised and evaluated as potential light-absorbing chromophores for free radical polymerisation. The kinetic study of photoinitiated polymerisation of ethyl acrylate performed with the use of N-phenylglycine, ethyl 4-N,N-dimethylaminobenzoate, phenylthioacetic acid and phenoxyacetic acid have proved that the tested dyes are good electron-accepting photoinitiators. The results show that, in the photoinduced electron transfer from donor to excited singlet state of the dye, the radical anion is possibly formed via an associated donor–dye complex. Titre : Effect of nanoclays on the dyeability of polypropylene nanocomposite fibres Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Lova Razafimahefa, Auteur ; Eric Devaux, Auteur ; Isabelle Vroman, Auteur ; Sabine Chlebicki, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 86-91 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Polypropylene clay fibres loaded with different alkylammonium-modified montmorillonite were prepared using a melt spinning technique and relationships between the structure and properties of the nanopolypropylene fibres are discussed. Experiments carried out using transmission electron microscopy showed that the chemical structure of the organic modifier and the interlayer spacing of the clay induced different dispersions of the clay, thus improving accessibility of the nano fibre. It is known that nanoclays are effective and efficient sorbents for dyes. Therefore, the dyeing behaviour of the nano polypropylene fibres with two distinct acid dyes and a disperse dye was studied and the build-up of dyes, measured as colour yield, reported. The best results were obtained when the clay was well dispersed in nanopolypropylene fibres; that is, when maleated polypropylene was added as a compatibiliser and when disperse dye was used. Good wash fastness was then obtained. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A series of azo dyes has been synthesised based on N-alkylphthalimide diazo components featuring one of three different alkyl groups. An analogous set of dyes was prepared in which the N-alkylphthalimidylazo systems bore an o,o-dibromo-substitution pattern. In these cases, cyanodebromination was performed to give the corresponding dicyano analogues. All the synthesised intermediates and dyes were characterised by mass spectrometry, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The absorption maxima of the dyes in dimethylformamide (N,N-dimethyl ~) were observed to be in the range 435–608 nm and found to be consistent with results seen in previous studies of conventional monoazo disperse dyes. Replacement of both halogens in the dibromo-substituted dyes with cyano groups led to large bathochromic shifts (128–141 nm) in absorption maxima. Bathochromism was also observed when acetylamino groups were present on the coupler ring ortho to the azo link. However, variation of the N-alkyl function on the imido ring from n-butyl to sec-butyl and iso-propyl had little effect on absorption maxima, values being similar to that reported for the parent N-unsubstituted analogue. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The investigation used a pilot-scale jet dyeing machine to examine the relationship between the dye exhaustion rate per contact and dye unlevelness on the fabric. It was found that a commercially acceptable degree of unlevelness could be obtained for a direct dye on pure cotton fabric as long as the exhaustion rate did not exceed 1.0% per contact, independent of the dye amount used. Bath contacts and fabric contacts influenced unlevelness in equal manner. Non-ionic surfactants, which had been selected so as not to influence the dye exhaustion rate or its equilibrium uptake, appeared to have little or no influence on unlevelness. Control of the dye uptake by electrolyte addition proved to be a more efficient dyeing strategy than controlling it by dye addition, as unlevelness in the first case was much lower at the same exhaustion rate. Activated surfaces were grafted with two different amine compounds: ethylenediamine and triethylenetetramine. Pretreated cotton was dyed with acid dye and the effects of pretreatment on the colour strength, as well as the washing, rubbing and the light fastness of the dyeings, were investigated. Colour yield results showed that grafted ethylenediamine and triethylenetetramine enhance the dyeability of cotton fabric with acid dyes. Fourier transform infrared spectra confirmed the formed groups on the surface and scanning electron microscopy showed the etching effect of plasma. This dye was characterised by ultraviolet–visible, Fourier Transform–infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry techniques and elemental analysis. Both the effects of pH value and solvent polarity upon the absorption properties of the dye have been presented. In addition, the structure of the dye has been determined by a single crystal The synthesis, crystal structure analysis and characterisation of 5-[thiazol-2-yldiazenyl]pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione are reported. In addition, the structure of the dye has been determined by a single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The dye was triclinic in P-1 with a = 8.2419(2) Å, b = 10.6225(3) Å, c = 12.5106(3) Å, a = 90.543(1)°, B = 102.79(3)°, Y = 103.858(1)°, V = 1035.26(5) Å3, Dcalc = 1.634 g/cm3 and Z = 2. The asymmetric unit contains two crystallographically independent C7H5N5O3S molecules, alongside one half of the solvent C2H6O2 molecule. In the crystal structure, intramolecular N–H…N and intermolecular N–H…N, N–H…O, O–H…N, C–H…O and C–H…N hydrogen bonds link the molecules to form a supramolecular network in which they seem to be effective in the stabilisation of the structure. Bone, Auteur ; T. T. Le, Auteur ; Duncan A. S. Phillips, Auteur ; John A. Taylor, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 117-126 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : An earlier paper reported that the reactive dyes (not the disperse dyes) were responsible for the inability to achieve heavy depths of shade, when dyeing polyester/cotton blends by a one-bath process at 130 °C and neutral pH using reactive dyes containing a 3-carboxypyridinium-s-triazinyl group. It was shown that the poor colour yield of the bis-3-carboxypyridinium-s-triazine reactive dyes was because of their low exhaustion level at 130 °C and pH of 7.0–7.5. We now report the synthesis and evaluation of some bis-3-carboxypyridinium-s-triazine reactive dye structures, possessing highly substantive chromophores, as a means of obtaining high colour yield, on 100% unmercerised cotton, under the specified dyeing conditions. The technical performance of these dyes under such conditions was compared with that of selected Novacron (Cibacron) LS and Procion H-E dyes, applied under their recommended (atmospheric) dyeing conditions. Twenty white samples with low to high CIE whiteness indices were prepared and ranked by 22 amateur observers and the variations in the ordering decisions of the observers were compared. Results show a significant consistency between the assessments of the observers for the white samples with low indices of whiteness. However, a large level of disagreement was found between the observers for the whiter samples. In fact, the range of ranks assigned by viewers for each sample increases with an increase in the whiteness of the specimens. Distributions of the assigned orders for the samples are interpreted by considering the CIE whiteness as well as the tinting indices.
