Tannage Résumé : Electron micrographs of stained collagen fibrils display a pattern of alternating light and dark bands perpendicular to the axis of the collagen fibril. Light bands correspond to regions of more dense lateral packing where adjacent collagen monomers overlap and dark bands correspond to 'gap' regions, domains of low-density molecular packing. Most studies of artificially stabilized collagen focus on crosslinks that utilize specific amino acid side chains, without considering whether these are more likely to be located in overlap or gap regions. The gap region with its lower molecular density, greater length, and available telopeptides appears promising as an area able to accommodate oligomeric compounds that are the typical tanning agents. This study uses the ERRC collagen microfibril model to explore the interactions of catechin, a model for vegetable tanning agents thought to interact with serine residues, in the collagen microfibril. Attempts at placing catechin near serine residues in the gap region of the microfibril and subjected to conditions typical of tanning. Under these simulated conditions each catechin molecule moved into a position where intermolecular stabilizing interactions were likely, although not with sering. The method will be valuable in predicting the effectiveness of proposed new tanning agents. Introducing So2- 4 to the chromium solution causes the creation of stable sulfate complexes that limit the transport capacities of the investigated system with the liquid membrane. the presence of chlorines in the solution does not considerably influence the effectiveness of chromium(III) extraction stripping. As a results restrict the direct application of liquid membranes for the pertraction of chromium from tanning liquors. It involves manyu process steps and huge pH variations thus discharges enormous amount of pollutants. A prudent analysis of the conventional leather process shows that the sequence follows do-undo logic. In this study, the conventional proccessing sequence has been reversed to reduce the number of process steps and pH variations thereby achieving resource and polution reductions. Hair sheepskins have been processed using both conventional and reverse processes for gloving application. Reverse process involves pretanning, post tanning, tanning and finishing sequence. The pH and charges of skin matrix after deliming are wisely utilized to apply post-tanning chemicals followed by chrome tanning salt the processed leathers have been analyzed for chromium content, shrinkage temperature, strength and bulk properties. A set of turn-key tests have been carried out to verify whether the reverse processedleathers meet military specifications. The performance of reverse processed glove leathers is shown tobe on par with conventionally processed leathers and meet the specifications predominantly. Especially, chrome content of reverse processed leathers is higher than control leather, which is corroborated through X-ray fluorescence analysis. The process enjoys significant reduction in COD and TS loads by 53 and 70%. Also, the process benefits from significant reductions in water, wastewater discharge, chemicals, time, power and cost compared to conventional process. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The presented work describes a method of utilizing collagen hydroysate obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis of chrome-tanned shavings for preparing biodegradable films. Films were prepared by casting from a solution of collagen hydrolysate with added plasticizer (glycerol) and cross-linking agent (starch dialdehyde). Films thus prepared were subjected of thermal annealing at 60, 70, 80 and 90°C for 24 hours. Thermal annealing is a mode of physical cross-linking of film solubility. Solubility curves are important for applying biodegradable films in industrial practice. Thermal annealing was found to affect the crosslinking degree of prepared film in significant manner, hence, also, its solubility. Results indicate that collagen hydrolysate, following certain modification by plasticizer and crosslinking agent is capable of producing films whose properties may by additionally modified.
