Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Six different polyester resins of 3000 molecular weight having carboxy terminating groups were prepared by reacting propylene glycol with varying combination ofmaleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride. Liquid polyester could be prepared by using maleic anhydride alone in conjunction with propylene glycol. These polyesters were emulsified in water by using ammonia as neutralizing agent giving stable emulsions with excellent film properties. No or little volatile organic co-solvent was utilized for this purpose hence the VOC level of polyester emulsions containing high quantity of maleic anhydride was zero while in all other polyester emulsions it was only 2.4%. These polyester emulsions can be thinned down by water upto 100%. The high maleic content polyesters were foundto give high scratch hardness, flexibility with excellent water, chemicals and solvent resistance. These emulsions were converted into emulsion paints and evaluated for their film properties. The surface drying time of these emulsion paints were found to be within an hour. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Alkyd resins based on castor oil, rosin, pentaerythritol, fumaric acid and varying proportions of maleic and phthalic anhydrides were studied. These alkyd resins were converted into water thinnable emulsions without any surfactant or colloidal stabilizer. The emulsions were air drying and found to have excellent film properties, gloss, chemical and solvent resistance, storage stability and scratch hardness.Resistance to acetone, alkali and detergent are remarkable achievements of these emulsions. Four alkyd emulsions were used for the investigation. The emulsions were prepared from the alkyd resins based on castor oil, rosin, pentaerythritol, fumaric acid, maleic and phthalic anhydrides. All the formulations have found to be excellentin their film properties, chemical and solvent resistance, stability and scratch hardness. The gloss emulsion paint had excellent gloss.
